Legend

According to Moonalice legend, tonight poster by Dave Hunter illustrates the remarkable celestial events that occurred over the past 48 hours. The Nationals’ Bryce Harper launched two small satellites – actually they were baseballs thrown by the Giants’ Hunter Strickland – into high earth orbit, creating serious competition to Space-X and NASA in the satellite launch business. Somehow the Giants overcame this rocketry to win the series. Then this morning, just before dawn, there was a total eclipse of the moon. Lunar eclipses occur when the sun and moon are on opposite sides of Earth, exactly 180 degrees apart. This situation – known as syzygy – was made more dramatic when the two home runs hit the moon simultaneously, creating the effect you see here in Dave’s poster. It must have been something to see, but of course we all slept through it. That’s why we have the Moonalice legend … to make sense of everything!

The Rock Poster Society presents it’s annual event Festival of Rock Posters on Saturday, October 25, 2014 at Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. Held at the San Francisco County Fair Building (also known as the Hall of Flowers), this is a must for fans of concert posters!

Attendees will find everything from vintage psychedelic treasures to modern silkscreen rock posters, and of course Moonalice posters! Don’t miss this great opportunity to meet the artists behind the poster, and get your favorites signed by them too.

This event runs from 10:00am to 6:00pm and admission will vary depending on the time you arrive, after 3:00pm the event is FREE. Complete list of artists and vendors attending at TRPS.org or join the event on Facebook for more information.

According to Moonalice legend, Mark Twain once spoke from this stage, sharing pearls of wisdom a century ago that describe perfectly the world we inhabit today. He said: Suppose you were an idiot, and suppose you were a member of Congress; but I repeat myself. Tonight’s poster by Norfolk native Dave Hunter underscores the undying wisdom so often shared by Twain: In the first place, God made idiots. That was for practice. Then he made school boards. But our personal favorite is this quote: Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect. We haven’t yet met the ghost that lives here, but if we do, we know who we’re gonna call … Mr. Twain. As he so famously said: It is better to keep your mouth closed and let people think you are a fool than to open it and remove all doubt.
