A classic in the Chris Shaw Poster release that will also appeal to David Nelson Band fans is from the show on May 11, 2012 at Mt. Tabor Theater in Portland, Oregon. That night fans were treated to both bands, and also M472 in the Moonalice series by Art Director Chris Shaw.
We recently caught up with Chris in his studio where he shared an uncanny look into his process to create this fine work of art. The first step was to create a thumbnail of the concept, pictured below:
After the thumbnail had marinated in Chris’ mind, he started sketching out the art. After many hours, the final pencil sketch is completed:
The art is then reproduced in ink so it can be scanned for use on a computer where Chris Shaw can also give it some digital design love:
A technique that Chris used to give this poster an organic touch, was to make a light blue print out of the original inked art so it can be used in conjunction with a lightboard to produce additional layers.
Pictured below is the shadow layer in Moonalice poster M472, created using graphite.
If you are looking to add some Chris Shaw art to your collection, for a limited time this poster is available online at Moonalice.com, as well as a free video stream from that night in crisp HD! Quantities are limited.
