Moonalice poster by Wes Wilson
Legend
According to Moonalice legend, tonight’s poster by the incomparable Wes Wilson depicts Queen Tut Moonalice, the Egyptian monarch who moved to Berkeley a couple thousand years ago. Berkeley was quiet in those days. There was nothing here at all. No city. No university. No entertainment. And absolutely no music. So Queen Tut built a small pyramid, on this spot right here, which she called the Egyptian Theater. While pyramids are normally for the Dead, Queen Tut let all kinds of bands play there.
According to Moonalice legend, at this show we celebrated the Supreme Court’s decisions to end DOMA and Proposition 8. We gnashed our teeth at the Supremes’ decision to gut the Voting Rights Act.
