Dave Hunter has been a dynamic contributor to the San Francisco rock art/music scene since 1985. Soon after his arrival to the Bay Area, Dave began working with rock-and-roll legend Bill Graham and poster artist icon Rick Griffin. He helped organize and install rock poster shows at the Psychedelic Shop while also supporting The Artists Rights Now movement. You will know Dave best by his body of work, which spans more than 20 years. Dave also developed a unique, hand-silkscreening technique called Gammalyte.

The powerful magic of Dave’s art has touched the hearts of many musicians around the world, such as Eric Clapton, Carlos Santana, Metallica, Moonalice, Dr. John, Les Claypool, The Decemberists, The Neville Brothers, as well as the Grateful Dead’s 50th anniversary shows and Dead & Company. He has also created event posters for Hardly Strictly Bluegrass, The Rock Poster Society (TRPS), and multiple SEVA Foundation benefits.

Most recently, Dave has worked from his home studio in Fairfax, CA, supporting his young daughter. Last year, he was diagnosed with severe brain cancer. Shocked and saddened, the close-knit San Francisco concert poster community has undertaken a number fundraising and support programs to cover Dave’s medical and living costs. The Haight Street Art Center – a new, Bay Area 501( c )3 non-profit public charity—has joined the Moonalice poster series artists to create a benefit lot for this auction.

The lot includes 957 different Moonalice posters designed by 28 artists. All but two are signed by the original artists. Moonalice 80, designed by Claude Shade, and Moonalice 605, designed by Gary Grimshaw, are not signed.

This is the first—and only—complete Moonalice poster set ever offered for sale, and the only set in existence that will be signed by 26 artists.

The outpouring of love for artist Dave Hunter who is battling brain cancer continues with “Art & Soul” – A Concert to Benefit Dave Hunter with Steve Kimock & Friends on Friday, May 12th, 2017 at Great American Music Hall in San Francisco, CA.

Steve Kimock & Friends, featuring Steve Kimock, Jeff Chimenti, Bobby Vega, John Morgan Kimock and Leslie Mendelson, plus very special guests, will take the stage on Dave’s behalf.

Opening for Steve Kimock & Friends will be Disreputable Few made up of Los Angeles area musicians who recently backed Bob Weir in several appearances at this year’s NAMM show.

Artist Jonathan Singer will be providing divine and illuminating visuals.

There will also be a silent auction, raffle, and poster art show bringing together some of the best of the Bay Area.
