According to Moonalice legend, today’s poster by David Singer depicts the very first Hangtown Halloween festival back in the 1849. The original Hangtown was supposed to be a harvest festival, but what with the Gold Rush and all, almost everyone had forgotten to plant their crops. Fortunately, the two characters in the foreground of this poster – Dry Diggings Moonalice and his new bride El Dorado — were the last people in town who understood that the only gold worth having at a party is the kind you can smoke.

The former enabled her to move around town in style; but the latter meant she had to avoid tunnels and overpasses. September smoked humongous doobies and shared them with everyone she met, which made her the most popular woman in San Francisco. Let that be a lesson to us all!

According to Moonalice legend, today’s poster by David Singer depicts Baby Irene Moonalice, who grew up right here in Sand City. Baby Irene was remarkably energetic for a Moonalice, a veritable hurricane of energy, and she devoted all that energy to growing giant tulips on the beach here in West End. In a tribe traditionally focused on playing bass and growing hemp, giant tulips represented a potential diversification. Unfortunately, Irene’s giant tulips bloomed only once and lasted two days. The bulbs have been hibernating ever since. One day they will bloom again!
