According to Moonalice legend, tonight’s poster by Chris Shaw depicts the original cactus jack … six-pointed suguaro that was the original Arizona version of the children’s game. Have you seen one of these before? I thought not. The Arizona game of cactus jacks quickly found a market in Phoenix — they used the 19th century equivalent of Kickstarter — but it ultimately got blown out by the non-prickly European game known as knucklebones. It happened so fast, it was as if cactus jacks never existed. But here we are tonight. Living proof that Cactus Jack’s lives on.

According to Moonalice legend, some of us have been confused about the original of the name Marshall Tucker. We all know the story of the blind piano tuner who was the previous occupant of the band’s rehearsal space in Spartansburg. But nobody knows where the piano tuner went or what connection he might have to tonight’s show. We consulted the Moonalice legend, where we found this poster by Chris Shaw. It turns out that the blind piano tuner was actually from here in Napa … Where he ran the world’s only museum of blind pianos. As the poster shows, it was a beautiful building, situated a mile from where we are now. Unfortunately, it is gone now. The piano tuner went to Spartansburg and somebody knocked down the museum and planted a vineyard.

According to Moonalice legend, Jerry Garcia was a terrible. But at least he was inventive. Jerry didn’t like to bend over, much less dive for the ball, which reduced his effectiveness with a glove. Tonight’s poster by Chris Shaw shows Jerry going old school at third base, forsaking a glove for a 38-ounce bat. The bat was no more effective than Jerry’s glove at keeping runners off base … but it saved a lot of runs. No baserunner ever dared go past second base!

According to Moonalice legend, we are gathered tonight to celebrate freedom … specifically one specific freedom – the freedom to use cannabis. Cannabis figured directly in the drafting of the Declaration of Independence 238 years ago. Everyone knows the Declaration was written on hemp paper. But history does not tell the full story. This is where the Moonalice Legend saves the day. Tonight’s poster by Chris Shaw shows Ben Franklin, John Adams, and Thomas Jefferson hard at work. Close inspection reveals a bong and a large pile of nugs on the table, a doobie in Jefferson’s hand, an empty Cheetos bag and the remains of a pizza on the floor … exactly the ingredients one would want when composing the most important political document in our country’s history. The moral of the story is obvious, isn’t it? Our country was at its best when cannabis was legal.
