Moonalice is not playing, but will be hosting a special live stream of the 16th annual Jerry Day event on Moonalice.com and Nugs.tv.
Jerry Day is a civic and cultural event that celebrates one of the greatest rock guitarists of all time and San Francisco native son – Jerry Garcia. This event captures the true spirit of Jerry Garcia as we celebrate his legacy, the Jerry Garcia Amphitheater, and recognize his childhood roots from the Excelsior District of San Francisco. By uniting the diverse communities of San Francisco through Jerry’s music, we are creating something extraordinary for Jerry’s childhood neighborhood – the Excelsior District, McLaren Park, and the City and County of San Francisco.
This event runs from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm.

Performers
Stu Allen & Mars Hotel, a tribute band based out of the San Francisco Bay Area, emulates the feel, excitement, and energy of the Grateful Dead at their peak. Filled with jam band veterans and Grateful Dead enthusiasts, this band is sure to please even the most discriminating dead-head. Featuring the ever-popular and always inventive Stu Allen (formerly of Melvin Seals & JGB), Mars Hotel presents familiar and obscure Dead songs which they use as launch pads for flights of improvisation. Come join Stu Allen & Mars Hotel for a far out journey that’s sure to hit home.
Melvin Seals and JGB bring an intuitive, expressive style, soul, spontaneity and remarkable chops to the table. With acoustic and electric ingredients and unique combinations of Zach Nugent’s guitar and vocals, John Paul McLean’s savory bass, Pete Lavezzoli’s hearty drums and, of course, a heapin’ helpin’ of the wizard’s magic on Hammond B-3 Organ and keyboards. Along with Sunshine Becker and Lady Chi on back-up vocals, the result is a most satisfying blend of natural organic grooves that challenges genre boundaries. Their chemistry is the focus from which they create a spontaneous and high art where the sky is the limit musically. They offer an exciting, often psychedelic musical journey that changes nightly and keeps the audience dancing and smiling (and some staring in amazement) for hours.
Adding his rock-gospel-soul-rhythm and blues touch with his funky style of playing, no wonder Jerry nicknamed him “Master of the Universe”. Melvin continues to treat music lovers to his unique brand of melodic flavor with JGB. Come see and hear for yourself!

Gary Gates Band
After more than four decades of rocking the Bay Area, including performances at Phil Lesh’s Terrapin Crossroads, Gary Gates has earned his status as a respected elder of the Bay Area jam band scene. Gary’s tried and true brand of reggae-tinged psychedelic jam rock has been getting people on their feet ever since the late 70s when Gary toured as the opening act for Neil Young. Upliifting lyrics, danceable grooves and epic guitar solos are Gary’s forte, including a large catalog of memorable originals mixed with his versions of Bob Marley, Grateful Dead, etc. Gary typically gives away his CDs for free at his shows including the acoustic big band of “Live at the San Gregorio General Store,” recorded and produced by John Nowland, best known as Neil Young’s studio engineer. Gary’s latest release includes three tracks recorded with Phil Lesh at Terrapin Crossroads. For the last 20 something years, Gary has been the closing act at both the La Honda Fair and the Pescadero Art & Fun Festival, securing his place as a musical fixture on the coast.
