According to Moonalice legend, the 2016 presidential election has broken the mold of traditional politics … Tonight’s poster by Winston Smith brings together the cast of the award-winning musical Hamilton to explain what is going on. As you can see, one of our political parties has nominated a turkey, while the other is trying to clean up the mess with a vacuum cleaner. On the left, we have Louie from Casablanca — he of the beautiful friendship — while on the right we have the turkey’s offspring. Nobody knows what Louie and the kids are doing here. In the lower left, we can see the media … which is definitely in need of a fresh diaper. Meanwhile, the military is holding a swordfish.

According to Moonalice legend, today is Yoda’s birthday. The Star Wars movies provide no information about Yoda’s origin, but once again the Moonalice comes to the rescue. It turns out that Yoda may have been born right here in Union Square on the fourth of May of a year that pre-dates the founding of San Francisco. Yoda’s family was in the Yerba Buena business, growing a strain of indica so powerful that it messed up the syntax of anyone who smoked it, accounting for the object-subject-verb syntax for which justifiably famous Yoda is. It’s an auspicious day, and we encourage you to honor Yoda when you acknowledge the date. All you have to do is say the words, May the Fourth be with you!

Mule Gallery will be hosting a solo show of artist Winston Smith’s surrealist collages from May 6 – June 24, 2016. The opening reception, in conjunction with North Beach First Fridays, takes place May 6 from 6:00-9:00pm. Join the event on Facebook for more information. This is free and open to the public. ✂️

Winston is a master of “hand-carved” collage and has been crafting his thought-provoking art since the 1970s. He currently has 14 pieces in the Moonalice Poster Series.

According to Moonalice legend, today is the 20th of April … the day after Bicycle Day … two days after Patriots Day … better known to us as 4/20. This year 4/20 is the day that the United States finally decided to replace the horrific Andrew Jackson on the $20 bill with the incredible and wonderful Harriet Tubman. Every year 4/20 is a day to celebrate the world’s most popular weed, cannabis. We are gathered here at Slim’s to share the High Holy Day of 4/20 with the members of our tribe. According to Moonalice legend, spring has arrived! The days are longer. The sun is warmer. The crop is being planted. And Moonalice tour is back on the road. We have returned to Winston’s, but apparently all hell has broken loose back home. As depicted in tonight’s poster by Winston Smith, our farm has been overrun by a tribe of Victorians. They brought their foxes, hounds, and horses. They brought their stork, which brought an armadillo. And they are having a tea party. Fortunately, our family members are passed out on the couch … If you find this to be confusing, we would point out that it’s nowhere near as confusing as politics on cable news. We want to thank Cubensis for letting us share the stage …
