Ann Miller & Carolyn Ferris Art Exhibit

San Francisco Bay Area artists Carolyn Ferris and Ann Miller are pleased to present an exhibition of their work from October 24, 2014 – January 8, 2015. An opening reception will be held on Friday, October 24th 2014 from 5:30 – 9:00 p.m. Wine and hors d’oeuvres will be served, and light musical entertainment will be provided by Karine Woodward. The reception and exhibition will be housed at Michael Thompson Framing, in the heart of SoMa, at 647 7th Street in San Francisco, CA. The space offers a unique yet relaxed, and visually pleasing environment. Free parking will be available both in front of the building and in the surrounding neighborhood.

Both artists will be present at the opening evening reception on October 24th. Throughout the weekend, the exhibition and opportunities to meet the artists will continue. On Saturday, October 25th Ann Miller will be present at the exhibit from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., while Carolyn Ferris will be showing her work at The Rock Poster Society’s (http://TRPS.org) annual fall Festival of Rock Posters from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. in Golden Gate Park, San Francisco.

On Sunday, October 26, 2014 both Carolyn Ferris and Ann Miller will be available to meet and talk with the public at the exhibition from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. During the same weekend (October 25th – 26th) both artists’ work will be displayed at ArtSpan (http://artspan.org), located at 934 Brannan Street in San Francisco, California.

About Carolyn Ferris: A surrealistic artist of canvas paintings and digital creations, Carolyn Ferris began her career as an abstract artist. After working with psychedelic psychologist Timothy Leary in the late 1990’s, and on his advice, she shifted to computer generated artwork. It was in 1997 when Carolyn first discovered and delved into the world of rock poster art. Having created work for Santana, The Fillmore and The Warfield in San Francisco, her signature surreal rock poster art is now iconic. Since 2009 she has created poster art for Moonalice (http://moonalice.com), a band that has initiated a significant resurgence in rock poster art since their debut in 2007. In 2013 the artist returned to painting, rendering original works of art from various Moonalice posters. At the exhibition, there will be an exclusive showing of the first-ever “singing canvas”, Carolyn’s recently created 30 inch acrylic on canvas which correlates to “Silver Linings”, an endearing Moonalice song written by Roger McNamee. The canvas, in turn, will be made into a Moonalice poster which will be available at their show at Don Quixote’s Music Hall in Felton, California on December 19th, 2014. Carolyn, who lives in Fairfax, California, finds sanctuary with great music, adventure, and the ability to create her surrealistic worlds for a purpose. She may also be found on the social web on Facebook as CarolynFerrisArt, and on Twitter as CarolynFerris.

About Ann Miller: An artist and calligrapher, Ann Miller founded M2 Design in 1979 in order to pursue freelance graphics and illustration work. She has further developed her letterform and book arts techniques in advanced study with master calligraphers. Having been published in Letter Arts Review, and Bound & Lettered, her work reflects her love of the history of writing and its techniques. In 2002, Academy of Art University requested that she develop online courses in Calligraphy and Letterform and Advanced Calligraphy, which she has taught since. Additionally, the artist teaches letterform design at San Francisco Center for the Book. Ann’s creations include a 12-foot family tree for the actress Brooke Shields which was featured in the NBC television series, “Who Do You Think You Are?”, as well as a series of calligraphy murals for the new public library in the city of Belmont, California. Her presence on the web may be found at Pennib.com, on Facebook.com/stonetiger, and on Twitter.com/AnnCalli.
