One of the most popular Moonalice posters from 2012 was M504 in the series, also known as the Jerry Garcia poster. On August 1, 2012 Moonalice played at AT&T Park for Jerry Garcia’s 70th Birthday Celebration, and to mark this special occasion, Art Director Chris Shaw was called upon to design a poster. In celebration of the Chris Shaw Poster release, we take a closer look at this classic.
A recent visit to Chris’s studio revelead a pencil sketch used to create this poster:
Chris also shared the final Jerry Garcia sketch used in the poster pictured here:
Chris teamed up with Chuck Sperry to create a silkscreen version of this poster, the edition size was 100, and have long been sold out. The silkscreen version contains metallic ink, unlike the offset version, and is larger in size measuring 21″ x 31.75″
For the first time ever, Chris shares the progressives to this poster with us. The printing process works with each color being applied one at a time. The silver kicks things off for the silkscreen version, followed by blue, magenta, yellow, and finally black to complete the poster.
When first released online, this poster sold out within hours. For those who missed out, a few copies have turned up in the Moonalice archive and are being offered now for limited time at Moonalice.com. Now’s a great time to add this summer classic to your collection today!
