According to Moonalice legend, today’s poster by Gary Houston depicts Merlot Moonalice, who abandoned traditional tribal agriculture for a life of wine. Merlot settled right her in Sunnyvale, her Moonalice heritage combined with a perfect climate to produce the world’s only smoking wine. Highly coveted in the Moonalice tribe, smoking wine never caught on with the carriage trade.

According to Moonalice legend, a technical failure in the satellite rig prevented us from Mooncasting this show live. Such is life at the leading edge!

Artist’s Statement

Since this Moonalice performance is at the Sunnyvale Art and Wine Festival, I decided to take a different stance on the presentation. I conceptually focused on wine, which with it’s traditionally more conservative and classical feel of imagery, led me to using an art nouveau inspired iconography. Also I didn’t want the art to contain any black, so all of the coloration could be pushed back. The entire image, including the lettering, was hand cut with Rubylith and an Xacto-knife, and then colored digitally…
