Artist’s Statement
This image originated while driving on the Blue Ridge parkway, right after the quarantine started. I was struck how tragic it is that we humans are so inextricably connected to each other, and now we have to isolate ourselves. I’ve grown to appreciate the beauty of the Blue Ridge mountains, and images like this are all over western North Carolina, where layers of mountains and hills get lighter and more neutral as they recede in the distance. So, to juxtapose the photo with individual drawings of people in their homes, floating distantly in thin air, seemed to express that idea pretty well.
