SUMMARY:Stanley Mouse: A Retrospective\, Haight Street Art Center\, San Francisco
DESCRIPTION:Stanley Mouse: A Retrospective of one of San Francisco’s Premier Psychedelic Poster Artists.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Stanley Mouse is best known for the eye-popping and iconic posters\, album covers\, and T-shirt designs he made–often in collaboration with Alton Kelley–during the Heyday of San Francisco’s counterculture renaissance and well into the 1970s. His influential work during that era captured the color\, fun\, mystery\, passion\, and creatively liberating experimentalism of those tumultuous times.” – Bay Area writer & HSAC Friend\, Blair Jackson \n\n\n\n\n\nHaight Street Art Center is proud to present Stanley Mouse: A Retrospective\, a career-spanning collection created over more than five decades of nonstop artistic inspiration. This exhibition explores all aspects of Mouse’s art. Before taking the Haight-Ashbury by storm\, Mouse enjoyed tremendous success in his native Detroit detailing hot rods and airbrushing shirts and posters with whimsical drawings and paintings of crazy monsters and extreme cars. More recently\, in addition to satisfying an ongoing demand for music related commissions\, Mouse has delved deeply into fine art\, painting vivid landscapes and wonderfully evocative figurative pieces. \n\n\n\nBOOK YOUR VISIT

SUMMARY:All Access: Exploring Humanism in the Art of Chuck Sperry
DESCRIPTION:All Access: Exploring Humanism in the Art of Chuck Sperry\nSeptember 15 – December 9\, 2018 \nThe Fort Wayne Museum of Art is pleased to celebrate Chuck Sperry’s first museum solo exhibition. Sperry has been preeminent in the rock poster genre since the late 1990s and has largely defined the genre in each decade since with his distinctive style and masterful printing technique. \nSperry has drawn inspiration for this work from the classical Greco-Roman idea of the muses\, and their metaphorical home on Mount Helikon — the source of inspiration for all things art and music. Naiads\, nymphs and muses in their richly patterned floral settings make their way into Sperry’s work. Dripping with brightly colored flowers\, decked in gold and silver textures\, Sperry’s blue-silver muses sing a paean to the long tradition of humanism reactivated in the struggle for social progress\, universal human rights\, a more perfect democracy and the utopian ideals of the Haight-Ashbury neighborhood of San Francisco where Sperry has made his home since 1989. \nSymbolism\, Secession\, ukiyo-e\, and psychedelia blend in Sperry’s flattened\, post-modern figurative art: all potent ingredients Sperry strives self-consciously to re-evaluate for the 21st Century. \nThe exhibit will feature 2 large scale tapestries designed by Sperry\, 25 screen prints on oak panel\, original ink drawings\, and ephemeral color progressives which illuminate Sperry’s unique printing process. \nThis exhibition is organized by the Fort Wayne Museum of Art and its Curator of Contemporary Art Josef Zimmerman. \nExhibition Opening Party: September 14\, 6-9pm\nCelebrate opening weekend of this exhibit and Litmus Test: Works on Paper from the Psychedelic Era with live music\, cash bar\, appetizers\, and face time with the one and only Chuck Sperry! \nRead More

SUMMARY:Haight Street Art Center presents Lee Conklin: 50 Years of Psychedelic Art
DESCRIPTION:Opening Reception: August 1\, 2018 from 7:00 – 9:00pm \nThroughout its remarkable 50-year span\, Lee Conklin’s career has been well regarded as an essential contribution to the psychedelic poster art movement. Well known for imaginative vision and inventive lettering\, this work demands and rewards prolonged\, patient exploration. These posters often offer voyages—visual trips—containing hidden messages\, elements and value that reveal gradually and perhaps unintentionally. According to Conklin\, “I just start drawing … and sometimes it turns into something.” \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \nToday\, Lee Conklin successfully maintains the freehand ethos of his established style but fuses it with the possibilities inherent in digital technologies. Not retro-psychedelic\, this is contemporary psychedelic art of the highest order. \nExhibit runs through September 30\, 2018.
