Pacific Grove’s Good Old Days Festival April 6, 2014 Pacific Grove, CA Moonalice poster by Dennis LarkinsAccording to Moonalice legend, the Good Old Days festival is happening right here on the streets of Pacific Grove. This location is filled with historical significance. For example, that building right there was once a commune filled with hippies just like us, only more so. But did you know that about the first festival on this site? It occurred back in the dark ages – the early 60s – when an earlier version of our tribe met up with members of the Rumsen branch of the Ohlone tribe to celebrate the departure of those pesky monarch butterflies. As today’s poster by Dennis Larkins shows, our guys showed up in a station wagon with a camper full of weed, administered by Big Steve and Pokey. The Rumsens brought their guitars and rocked the joint. They taught us everything we know!!!
I call my latest matching pair of paintings “Moonalice Tours Playsets”. The concept comes from what used to be available to kids in the 1950’s from Wards and Sears catalogues (“wish books”) in their toy sections. Each “Playset” includes a Touring Vehicle and Tour Trailer complete with “high tech” communication equipment (naturally!) for broadcasting the shows. The sets are themed with characters and props including the Moonalice Band as well as Big Steve and Pokey in the trailer! The theme of the poster (and Playset) for the first show on April 5 at the Pacific Grove’s Good Old Days Festival is “Land of the Dinosaurs” and for the second show on April 6 it’s “Cowboys and Indians”! Hopefully, people will attend both shows and collect the whole set! – Dennis LarkinsM670 Watch this show now at Moonalice.com.
