January 8, 2016 The Sitzmark at Alyeska Resort, Girdwood, AK Moonalice poster by Jennaé BennettAccording to Moonalice legend, totem poles stand tall as a symbol of Alaskan culture. They tell stories about family and even bands. So imagine our surprise when we arrived at Alyeska to find a totem pole about Moonalice. As depicted in tonight’s poster by Jennae Bennett, the totem pole tells the tale of the young musician Pete Sears paddling his canoe past sea monsters on his way from England. It tells of young Barry Sless’ triumph over a basket of steamed jumbo blue crabs in his home town of Baltimore. Of San Francisco native Jay Lane’s struggles to enjoy a lifetime of good weather. And of me, beating the depression that comes from cheering for a team in last place. The totem pole also shows what brought this band together … music, of course. But also great weed!
