In 2010, Moonalice Art Director Chris Shaw and legendary rock poster artist David Singer have an insightful conversation about Moonalice poster art. David talks about breaking the rules in his posters when using Mandala like designs, shares where he finds the images used in his work, and what’s his favorite thing about doing Moonalice posters!

Pictured below the video are the Moonalice posters Chris and David discuss during the interview. Feel free to follow along by clicking the poster to advance it while viewing the talk. We are super excited to see what Mr. Singer has in store for this year, and hope to catch up with him soon for another interview!

Legends Vol 3 Poster Vault Release 8

On March 13, 2012, in News, by Icculus

According to Moonalice Legend, this week brings us to the halfway point of poster archive releases featured in The Moonalice Legend Posters And Words Volume 3 book.  We pick up on the East Coast, at the 8 x 10 Club in Maryland, with artwork by Dave Hunter depicting Oriole Moonalice. The psychedelic lettering on this poster is not to be missed!

The next night found Moonalice at The Jewish Mother in Virginia Beach with artwork by Chris Shaw. Are those geodesic domes on their heads? The legend of Christopher Newport might explain something. This poster is out of this world!

Chris Shaw also designed the Moonalice poster for the Magnolia Festival in Live Oak, Florida on October 23 & 24, 2009. This amazing illustration depicts the great matriach Magnolia Moonalice. The legend explains why she is very clever!

David Singer designed a remarkable poster for next evening’s concert on October 25, 2009. This poster gives us a glimpse to Everglades Moonalice as he makes his journey towards Skipper’s Smokehouse in Tampa, Florida. Sensational poster, and by a legendary artist!

Alexandra Fischer created a stunning poster for The Rex Foundation Benefit at the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco on November 29, 2009. New Riders of the Purple Sage headlined this event, which was also the last show GE Smith played with Moonalice. The poster is very enchanting with it’s Art Nouveau style lettering. Does it leave you smiling too?

With the last poster in this release, we are going Paleolithic! The Crown Room at the Crystal Bay Casino in Nevada is where this poster was originally released. Thanks to Alexandra Fischer, we get a rare look into the Crystal Caverns, a very special place for the stoned age Moonalices! This is a great artifact to have in your collection.

Act Now! Moonalice posters available for a limited time or while quantities last.

Beginning as a marketing tool, the rock poster quickly became a powerful form of self expression for young artists and illustrators. Director Merle Becker examines the history of the movement, inviting the artists to tell their stories of this self-made art movement. American Artifact starts in the 1960s, and moves towards a moment when the posters became collectibles, featuring testimonials by top artists, fans, and musicians.

This super cool movie features many Moonalice poster artists including: Stanley Mouse, Wes WilsonChuck Sperry, Ron Donovan, David Singer, Dennis Loren, Chris Shaw, Alexandra Fischer, & John Seabury.

Moonalice poster artists who have done movie posters for the film (pictured below) include Dennis Loren, Stanley Mouse, Chuck Sperry, & Chris Shaw.

Legends Vol 3 Poster Vault Release 7

On March 6, 2012, in News, by Icculus

According to Moonalice legend, the poster archive release this week starts out at Earthdance in Laytonville for the two night run at Big Oak Ranch. Artwork by Chris Shaw features the exquisite Terra Firma Spinner basking in moonlight! The next concert was Warren Hellman’s amazing Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival with not one, but two posters created for this special show! Artwork by Alexandra Fischer and Stanley Mouse captured the vibe of the event perfectly! (Artwork by Stanley Mouse might also look familiar if you own a copy of The Moonalice Legend Vol 2 book.)

October 14, 2009 began the East Coast Tour, starting with artwork for the North Star Bar in Phildelphia shining brightly by artist Alexandra Fischer! Alexandra also designed the next Moonalice poster for the show at Sullivan Hall in New York City. The artwork in her poster depicts a white apple sliced in half, exposing it’s magical moon appleseeds!

The last poster of this archive release was designed by David Singer for the concert at Kaplan’s Farm in Millerton, New York. The concert was a benefit for The Rex Foundation & Webutuck School Music Program. Cat’s under the stars all agree that the poster with a cat lounging on the moon is one of the most relaxing pastime activities! Moonalice posters available for a limited time or while quantities last.
