April 5, 2014 Pacific Grove’s Good Old Days Festival, Pacific Grove, California
Moonalice poster by Dennis Larkins
Legend
According to Moonalice legend, these are the Good Old Days. As depicted in the first poster of Dennis Larkins’ diptych, the Good Old Days are filled with happy memories of eating dirt, playing with the mercury from broken thermometers, and riding bikes without a helmet. Those were the days when plastic dinosaurs were no threat to Matchbox cars and when bands actually played good music. Here in Pacific Grove, the good old days are back and so are we. Thank you … for a real good time.
Artist’s Statement
I call my latest matching pair of paintings “Moonalice Tours Playsets”. The concept comes from what used to be available to kids in the 1950’s from Wards and Sears catalogues (“wish books”) in their toy sections. Each “Playset” includes a Touring Vehicle and Tour Trailer complete with “high tech” communication equipment (naturally!) for broadcasting the shows. The sets are themed with characters and props including the Moonalice Band as well as Big Steve and Pokey in the trailer! The theme of the poster (and Playset) for the first show on April 5 at the Pacific Grove’s Good Old Days Festival is “Land of the Dinosaurs” and for the second show on April 6 it’s “Cowboys and Indians”! Hopefully, people will attend both shows and collect the whole set!
