Begin­ning as a mar­ket­ing tool, the rock poster quickly became a pow­er­ful form of self expres­sion for young artists and illustrators. Director Merle Becker exam­ines the his­tory of the move­ment, invit­ing the artists to tell their sto­ries of this self-made art movement. American Arti­fact starts in the 1960s, and moves towards a moment when the posters became col­lectibles, fea­tur­ing tes­ti­mo­ni­als by top artists, fans, and musicians.
